Designed by Uffa Fox in 1946 the 12′ Firefly has proven to be a successful two person sailing boat. It was selected as an Olympic boat in 1948. It has a strong following by Universities around the country where it is used for team racing. Originally cold moulded in timber, it is now available from us in GRP.

CHARACTERISTICS

This is not an extreme boat but safe with good handling characteristics. It carries two people with ease and makes a great platform for close tactical racing.

With its relatively small sail area to is easy to handle in stronger winds, although it is renowned for its consistent performance in lighter winds.

The Firefly is used for most major team racing events in the UK and is now growing in use in the USA. This is a very popular fleet craft and we regularly produce batches for Education Authorities, Universities and Schools. CONSTRUCTION

The Rondar version is all GRP construction dramatically reducing the maintenance over the wooden version. The cold moulded hull form lends itself to construction in GRP, and you can expect many years of virtually maintenance free sailing.
